Ed Gould, former head of Marlborough college, Wiltshire, has been named as the new chairman of the Independent Schools Council, which represents schools that take 80 per cent of private-sector pupils. Mr Gould, who replaces Jean Scott, ISC chair for the past five years, is also a former leader of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC) and is on the board of both the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the United Learning Trust, the Anglican charity sponsoring 11 of the Government’s flagship academies.
