(Photograph) - NEW “czars”: Lindsey Fraser, right, and Kathryn Ross, literary consultants, have been appointed to head up the Executive’s campaign to get parents reading more with their children, it was announced on Wednesday. A grants scheme of up to pound;300,000 will be available next year to encourage local projects under the home reading initiative, unveiled in August. Ms Fraser and Ms Ross, who set up their own business after leaving the Scottish Book Trust, will co-ordinate various activities such as a website, a “reading together” CD and producing literature. They also aim to recruit more “reading champions” to raise literacy levels among children. Those already signed up range from Tam Cowan, the football pundit, and broadcaster Kirsty Wark to children’s writers Joan Lingard and Aileen Paterson. Photograph by ALISTAIR LINFORD
