New funding to train governors;In brief

MINISTERS have announced a pound;5 million package to train school governors in performance management. It includes national conferences, guidance documents and in-school training sessions. But the National Governors Council has criticised the move, saying it is still unclear what role governors are expected to play under ministers’ plans for performance-related pay for teachers. It is thought that governors will be involved in setting policy and standards in their individual schools.
