FOUR out of 10 parents whose children have special needs report poor relationships with professionals and one in five say they disagree with them, according to Enquire, the national information and advice service.
Seventy per cent of the 400-plus callers to the service, based at Children in Scotland in Edinburgh, have been parents.
A third of calls to Enquire are about records of need. A fifth are about identifying eeds and the related assessments and a similar proportion focus on choosing a school. Other issues deal with exclusions, making complaints and appeals.
A revised SEN guide for parents was launched on Wednesday by Sam Galbraith, Children and Education Minister. It covers how children are assessed; the support available; parent rights and responsibilities; how to choose a school; and the roles of professionals.
