Home-school learning guides could prove a boon to busy teachers who want to advise parents on helping their children with a range of topics.
The “Discover” series from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is published only on the Internet, with the idea that teachers can download the guides, adapt them to suit their own pupils and communities, and print them out for parents.
The clearly laidout guides provide parents with information on topics taught in primary schools, and suggest activities they can do with their children to support what is taught in class.
Topics, chosen with the help of teachers and subject specialists, include dance, religious festivals, electricity, portraits and “water in the landscape”.
