New heights of stress

Like many headteachers I spent all of last year waiting for “the call”. It came at 12.05pm on the last but one Tuesday of the school year, and again at 12.20pm! As head of a two-school federation I was surprised to receive notice of two inspections to be conducted by two (unrelated teams) on the same two days. Two days later, of course, it was all over after double briefing meetings, double updates, double requests for data etc, double interrogations, double joint observations - you get the picture!

Work-related stress? I thought as a headteacher that I’d experienced it all, but this was a whole new level.

All went well thanks to the superb teams that I have at both schools. But from now on, “the call” will hold no fears.

Gabrielle Gray, Wigan.
