ISRAEL: Israel’s new right-wing education minister, Limor Livnat, has announced plans for a new “heritage hour” for all Jewish 12 to 15-year-olds studying in non-religious state schools. Starting in the new school year, pupils will discuss religious texts and learn about religious holidays, as wellas “state symbols and significant figures in the history of Zionism”.
A new course in Land of Israel and Archaeology will meanwhile be designed for 15 to 16-year-olds. After her appointment in March, Livnat pledged to emphasise “Jewish and Zionist values” in schools.
