Plans were published today (Friday) to update the Standard for Headship, originally published in 1998. A three-month consultation period will seek support for a renewed emphasis on the role of the headteacher in driving change and raising standards. The main change from the previous standard is a strong focus on strategic vision, values and commitments.
It also notes that headteachers, while accountable for the quality of education in schools, are not the only source of leadership.
