Contributors on the the TES online staffroom are complaining that they are finding it tough to combine an NQT’s workload with the social life needed to meet a partner. One teacher wrote: “I split up with my boyfriend because of the pressures of the PGCE, thinking it would all be worth it. For what? The only eligible male I get to meet on a regular basis is the school cleaner.”
Even if prospective partners do arrive on the scene, they are not always sympathetic. Another teacher wrote: “It’s difficult to meet people who’ve got any idea what the job is like. I feel I could only go out with a teacher, but there are no eligible teachers in my school.”
