Newhaven Fort in East Sussex was built in the 1860s to deter invaders. It boasts massive walls, ramparts, gun emplacements and an echoing, spooky tunnel leading down through the cliffs, alongside exciting “real-life” sets and audio-visual presentations. Visitors can wander through a blitzed home, look into an Andersen air-raid shelter, step into tableaux of the Home Guard, women at work, evacuees, rationing and VE day and learn about Newhaven’s involvement with the Dieppe Raid, the D-Day landings and the Sussex Yeomanry.
