Magnus Bradbury tunes into Gaelic at Ardchattan primary, near Connel, in Argyll and Bute. Along with 11 other P1-P7 pupils he is learning the basics of the language that was once commonly spoken in his native area. It is all down to the efforts of Jan Kersel, the class teacher, who has taken part in a 20-hour local authority starter course and has taught Gaelic for the past three years.
A national report on teaching Gaelic as a second or third language in primary has shown strong support for the alternative to immersion or partial immersion teaching under Gaelic-medium education.
