The TES Scotland is increasing its activity and staff for a new session already alive with controversy - from secondary national tests to bitterly contested primary closures. It is a session which is bound to include the general election - and then possible first moves towards an assembly with education among its main powers.
Two new journalists join the Scottish team. Gillian Macdonald is moving from London to be assistant editor (features). She has edited the media and resources pages of The TES.
John Clark becomes a part-time reporter, mainly in the west of Scotland. He has had a long career with the Press Association in Glasgow.
They join the editorial team headed by Willis Pickard, with Neil Munro, deputy editor, and David Henderson, news reporter and editor of the school sports coverage.
Throughout the session there will be increased attention to what goes on in individual schools and colleges as well as incisive analysis of the policies and practices of central government and the 32 education authorities.
Special features this term include a wide-ranging look at the careers service (September 13), in-service courses (September 20) and information technology in Scotland (November 8). The TES Scotland is mounting a major conference on Higher Still in Edinburgh on December 9.
