The Government has pledged to continue the September Guarantee of a place in education for all students leaving compulsory education this year, but rejected calls to extend the guarantee to 18-year-olds. In a response to the education select committee, the Government also proposed referring to “Neets” (not in education, employment or training) as “young people who are currently Neet” to avoid the word being used as a pejorative.
