No more allowance

I still see some headteacher posts advertised with “plus London allowance” after the salary. I find this confusing as I thought the allowance had been replaced?

So do I. It is difficult enough designing an advertisement without making basic mistakes. There are four geographical pay scales, and regional allowances have disappeared. Usually, the schools that have not caught up with the changes are those that advertise rarely and are in small authorities, which also do not seem aware of what’s happened. My pet hate is the schools that don’t provide the numbers on roll. I take this to mean that rolls are falling and the governors are reluctant to reveal this fact.
