Aberdeen is to halt installations of mobile phone masts on schools following concern about microwave emissions and childhood cancers. Fife is also investigating the health risks following an application to place a mast on top of Madras College, St Andrews.
Both the Educational Institute of Scotland and the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association are monitoring the development.
A mast was put on Cults Academy, overlooking the Dee Valley, last October under an agreement with the former Grampian Region. Graham Traill, the headteacher, said the school wanted it removed.
John Stodter, Aberdeen’s director of education, said the scientific evidence was equivocal.
