(Photograph) - Dave Harvey has paid a high price for his job satisfaction.

During his 33-year career, the teacher at Elmwood junior school in Croydon, south London, has watched friends working in the private sector earn higher salaries, get company cars and go on holidays paid for by their employers.

By contrast, his family holiday for the past 20 years has been camping in France.

A report out this week found male primary teachers earn pound;78 per week less than they could earn in comparable jobs in the private sector.

Overall, primary teachers earn pound;23 and secondary teachers pound;26 less than they could elsewhere.
