The Ridings School, the Halifax comprehensive once dubbed the worst in the country, received a positive report from Ofsted this week. Inspectors found good progress had been made, but this has come too late to prevent its closure. Sue McMahon, Calderdale's NUT secretary, said it was "outrageous" that the school was not removed from special measures despite a generally positive verdict.
