THE Centre for Education for Racial Equality at Moray House is conducting a long-term survey of 4,000 Scottish schools to identify those doing impressive work in this area.

Rowena Arshad, the centre’s director, said: “Schools don’t get brownie points for it. Th Inspectorate doesn’t give gold stars for good anti-racist practice.”

She suggested Scotland was “uncomfortable with diversity”. This was evident in the responses from some schools which say good practice amounts to “not noticing” children’s colour.
