(Photograph) - Shipshape: A learning project aboard a tall ship at Liverpool docks won recognition when its leader Geoff Hanley was nominated for a STAR Award last year. The Flagship Project has trained hundreds of people on Merseyside in traditional maritime skills by recruiting teams of volunteers to refit the ship. The “Zebu” was built in 1938 for the Baltic timber trade, but had fallen into disrepair. Mr Hanley learnt rigging and ship maintenance skills from scratch and then taught them to volunteers. The ship is now fully restored and moored in Liverpool’s Albert Dock, where it is used as a training ship. Photograph by Chris Thomond
