New to the All About...family, this follows the usual format. Great looking, with exceptional images and video clips, this is a lovely resource for science and design and technology.

Light and Dark offers the “Lost Toys” game. This may create problems for some children with developing motor control, as the object is rejected if you clip the edge of the Sorting circle, but it is otherwise excellent. Other categories on offer are Pushes and Pulls, Sound and Hearing, Forces and Movement and Using Electricity. The activities are short, varied and well supported by the manual.

An activities section offers a notepad supported by word and picture banks, as well as a picture or slide show. The latter provides a discussion and presentation tool using all the images in the program, but I feel this is under-developed so may not reach its full potential in the classroom.

Pam Turnbull is science co-ordinator at the Heys primary school, Ashton-under-Lyne
