The article by Clare Dean (“GM school is Pounds 100,000 in the red”, TES, June 7) was incorrect on a number of points, of which two are critical.
Nonsuch high school is not Pounds 100,000 in the red. Financial forecasts produced in the autumn of 1995 indicated that at current levels of funding and expenditure, the school was likely to incur a deficit of Pounds 120,000 by the end of the 1996-97 financial year, unless action was taken. The school has taken the appropriate action to address this potential problem with the full support of the Funding Agency for Schools.
Government funding between 1994 and 1995 reduced by Pounds 50,000 and not Pounds 500,000 as reported.
The governing body particularly regrets the unnecessarily alarmist and misleading headline.
