Astonishing news reaches us from Inverness - yes, it can happen. Highland Council has been encouraging education staff to access “inappropriate” internet sites.

They were asked to do so in a very specific fashion - between Tuesday, October 8, and Friday, October 11. The scenes in staffrooms can only be imagined. Rest easy, however: it was all in the interests of testing a new monitoring system. The employees responded magnificently, we are told.

After a tiring 72 hours, it was back to normal. “Attempts to access inappropriate sites must cease” from 5pm on Friday, John Tyreman, the council’s head of electronic government, sternly warned staff. Such a spoilsport.
