Not for the intellectually inferior

May I comment on and correct a media misunderstanding about GCE A-levels?

It suddenly seems fashionable to dismiss so-called vocationally-focused A-levels as intellectually inferior in this current round of A-level bashing (something that has become an annual event).

I am a history teacher. I know a girl who is studying A-level PEsports studies.

The course is definitely not a soft option. It requires a detailed knowledge of human physiology and body mechanics, an insight into fitness techniques and human psychology, as well as applied technical and artistic physical skills of a high order.

That makes studying history sound comparatively straight forward and certainly less strenuous!
