YOUR article “Red tape consumes special needs millions” (TES, May 31) appears to be based on an early and incomplete draft of our forthcoming discussion paper on statutory assessment and statements of special educational needs. As such, it does not represent the view of the Audit Commission.
It is inaccurate both in terms of the key recommendations and the statistics it quotes. This would have become clear had The TES waited a matter of weeks until the publication of the final report.
