Not a poodle so no need of vetting

BOB Doe, editor of The TES, does a disservice to both teachers and his own journalists when he strongly implies that National College for School Leadership press releases have to be approved by the Department for Education and Skills (TES, Platform, November 1).

A conversation with his very professional team would quickly demonstrate that NCSL provides them with a stream of both proactive and reactive information that has not been anywhere near DfES “officials”.

School leaders increasingly regard the college as an independent voice for the profession. That is based on their experience of and engagement with it.

Mr Doe says “never underestimate headteachers”. On this occasion it seems as though it is he who has been guilty of it.

This letter has not been vetted.
