I can identify with Debbie Bear’s situation (TESS, May 27). The head of a local high school openly applies his belief that experience counts for nothing, as Ms Bear found in another context. A newly qualified teacher was appointed over experienced staff as a principal teacher and his girlfriend was appointed alongside him in the same department.

This is another piece in a jigsaw of staffing wherein more than a quarter are coupled. Promoted posts and in-school jobs swirl around, creating an incestuous den of exclusion.

Andrew Anderson, chairman of Highland Council’s education committee, wrote in the same issue about the Tapestry conferences’ successes in promoting creativity and learning. Surely he cannot accept this knot in his own council’s tapestry of creativity and learning.
