Students preparing for their forthcoming exams will no doubt have been aided and encouraged by the study supplement published recently in a certain west of Scotland broadsheet.

But anyone anticipating a good English award might wish to take its principal sponsor to task over the back page advertisement. Educational publisher Leckie and Leckie exhorts teenagers to purchase “extra practise books” as well as past papers that provide “perfect practise for the real exam”.

A case of practice clearly not making perfect.
