I’m just a little puzzled by this new “literacy hour”.

Way back in the early 1960s, when I taught six year-olds, each class in the school spent about an hour each day, between morning break and lunchtime, doing reading, handwriting and spelling activities, either as a whole class, in groups or individually.

Is this the sort of thing that is meant by this “new literacy hour”, or have I got it wrong?
