Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton joined Andrew Povey, leader of Surrey County Council, to launch RoadSense, a new educational initiative offering young people the chance to learn about road safety from the age of 14.

Pupils from Temple Primary School in Cheetham Hill helped Northern Rail tackle waste issues by canvassing commuters’ views on litter and recycling at Manchester Victoria Station.

Experts from Google helped girls at The Abbey School in Reading hone their online skills, including designing their own websites.

The Duke of Edinburgh visited Box Hill School in Dorking to mark its Golden Jubilee and to open its new music school. He heard the choir perform Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, before moving outside to watch pupils attempt the low ropes activity course.
