To mark his retirement after a 38-year career at Solihull School, head Phillip Griffiths sat for a portrait by artist Jane Allison. It will hang alongside portraits of other former heads.

More than 2,000 pupils from schools across Manchester spent a morning singing together in the council’s annual Big Sing event, at the Bridgewater Hall.

Arul Gupta (left) and Conor Murphy of Eltham College, London, celebrate their team’s decisive victory at the EPSCA National Under-11 chess tournament, which was held at Camber Sands. Arul and Conor also won special board prizes.

Students from RSA Academy in Tipton have been getting up close and personal with the animals at Dudley Zoo. The innovative project invites them to learn about animal welfare and husbandry by creating devices to entertain the animals, such as model zebras filled with meat for the lions.
