Ashes-winning England cricket star Graeme Swann gets behind Asda’s Kwik Cricket competition for Year 6 boys and girls, which uses a modified version of the game to encourage participation.

Year 5 pupils at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, Colchester, are learning to play violins, violas and cellos. Their big challenge is to master “Frere Jacques” before the school’s summer concert.

Some 500 primary pupils went on the last aspiration-raising tour of Weston College with ‘Professor Fluffy’, a furry creature that formed part of the Government’s axed AimHigher programme. College principal Paul Phillips now hopes to find alternative funding to keep the scheme alive in North Somerset.

Olympic silver medallist Dr Alison Mowbray spent the day at Springfield School, Portsmouth, to help inspire its Literacy Day, in which she worked with KS3, children from feeder primaries and gifted and talented PE pupils.
