Four carpentry students at Filton College, Bristol - Joe Hellin, Tony Stone, James Grogan and Dan Mills, pictured with teacher Tom Osborne - have been selected to compete in the DeWalt Apprentice Challenge final in May.

Will Cragg (pictured left), head of music at Teddington School in Middlesex, won the secondary Naace ICT Impact Award for the innovative use of ICT in his department. Former schools minister Lord Knight (also pictured) presented Mr Cragg with his trophy.

Gravity-defying hairstyles hit the catwalk for the annual City College Plymouth hair show, which raised more than pound;1,300 for the NSPCC. Students’ creations were inspired by the theme “enchanted”.

More than 200 Year 5 and 6 pupils from 21 schools took part in the Durham City School Sport Partnership’s mixed football league. St Godric’s beat St Thomas More in the final.
