The British Association’s annual Festival of Science will be held at Salford University, September 8-12, on the theme “Sustainable science”.
Highlights will include recent research in oceanographic and atmospheric science in weather forecasting and predicting climate change; Sir Peter Williams, BA president, on the importance of sustainability and sustaining science in today’s world; and new and emerging diseases in animals - is vaccination the right solution?

The Association for Science Education’s annual conference will be held at Reading University, January 8-10. The ASE also provides weekend residential courses on developing people and departments. “Making science inclusive: science and SEN” is the theme of a training event being run by the National Association for Special Educational Needs and the Association for Science Education at the Royal Hotel (Menzies), Scunthorpe, November 22. Physics on Stage, a European festival involving 300 teachers takes place at the European Space Agency, Noordwijk, the Netherlands, from November 8 to 15. The theme is “Physics and Life”. The UK must submit its list of 30 delegates by October 3 and proposals for presentations and workshops by September 19.
