The annual conference of the National Association of Mathematics Advisers will be held at The Sandbanks Hotel, Poole, Dorset, March 15-18, on the theme “Who Counts”. Speakers include Professor Marcus du Sautoy, Mathematical Institute, Oxford University and Royal Society university research fellow. Workshops include ICT and professional development for teachers and advisers.

BCME-6: Routes of Unity, a combined conference of all the main UK mathematical organisations will be held at Warwick University, March 30-April 2. Speakers include: Maths Czar Professor Celia Hoyles and Rob Eastaway, expert in creative problem solving, presenter and author.

Cambridgeshire’s education department is holding a conference for teachers called “Creativity Counts” at Peterborough’s Marriott Hotel on February 2-3. Speakers include: Professor John Mason, founder member of the Open University Centre for Mathematics Education, who has written a report on creativity in maths for a QCA project; Hattie The Clown (aka Sue Brown, maths advisory teacher for Harrow); and New London Orchestra, which will explore the link between maths and music.

The Mathematical Association is holding a series of three further mathematics teachers’ courses to help schools introduce further maths at AS-level and beyond. Course leader will be Charlie Stripp, chair of the MA’s teaching committee. The dates and a London venue have yet to be confirmed.
