The TOP Link initiative, part of the Youth Sport Trust’s “Step into Sport” programme, encourages secondary students to organise and run summer festivals of sport or dance for partner primary or special schools. In February and March each year, 600 higher education students run 18 conferences at universities to show 14 to 16 year-olds how to organise the festivals. Continuing until March 2006, Step into Sport is designed to recruit, train, deploy and support young sports leaders.

Bath University has introduced a new foundation degree in sports performance, particularly aimed at young people who missed out on degree-level study because they were focusing on achieving their own sporting goals. The two-year full-time course begins in September and a three-year part-time version in January.
