A conference exploring what works for children with speech, language and communication needs has been organised by the National Association of Professionals concerned with Language Impaired Children (NAPLIC) at Aston University, Birmingham, March 25. Speakers include Professor Joe Elliot, Durham University, and Dr Janet Wright, University College London.

"Communication and behaviour: exploring the link" will be the theme of I CAN's annual conference at the Institute of Education, London WC1, April 21. It will explore ways of working with young people with a communication disability and behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. The Down's Syndrome Association is holding a primary conference in Maidstone, May 4; Bristol, November 4; and Leeds, November 16. Secondary conferences will be held in Derby, April 26; Birmingham, October 5; and Southampton, October 12. A conference for parents and professionals on sexuality and relationships will take place in Liverpool, September 26.

Conductive Education Awareness Week will be held in Birmingham, March 11-19, marking CE's 20th anniversary in the UK. This rehabilitation programme developed in Budapest by Andr s Peto aims to help those with motor disorders. The programme includes the annual CE education group conference, March 11, fee: pound;60.

As part of National Young Disabled Person's Day on June 8, the Mobility Roadshow is running the Ready, Willing and Mobile competition. It seeks bright ideas from ages 7-14 to help disabled children integrate into everyday life by April 30. The winner receives a digital camera, HarperCollins books, a Calvert Trust activity weekend and a visit to the Mobility Roadshow, as well as Pounds 1,000-worth of school equipment. The free road shows will take place at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, April 5-6, and at Kemble Airfield, Swindon, June 8-10.
