EVENTS

New Designers at the Business Design Centre, London N1, will showcase the work of around 4,000 graduate designers. Part I, June 29 to July 2, focuses on contemporary applied arts; ceramics and glass; fashion, textiles and accessories; jewellery and precious metalwork. Part II, July 6-9, is devoted to: illustration and animation; furniture design; graphic design and interactive media; product design; spatial design; and photography.

COMPETITIONS

Clotheshow Live at the NEC Birmingham, December 1-6, features an educational bursary scheme comprising five competitions designed to encourage young people’s creativity. They include prizes up to pound;1,000 for the winners’ school or college. Challenges include: Can U Cut It, which offers a Pounds 3,000 annual bursary towards further education; the Young Designer of the Year Award for ages 18+, offering pound;2,000 and a work placement at a British design house; and a handbag design competition for ages 17-18 offering Pounds 2,000 towards a foundation course.
