* The International Commission for the Study and Improvement of Mathematics Education, a non-profit making organisation, is holding its 51st annual conference on the theme, “Cultural diversity in mathematics education” in Chichester, West Sussex, on July 21-26. Aimed at school, tertiary and university teachers, topics will include the evolution of maths from different cultures and its relevance to today’s technological society and coping with the diversity of student abilities, interests and background. * The National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges is holding its annual conference at Coventry Technical College on June 23. Speakers include Richard Haberman, City University, on maths in finance and insurance, and Ros Sutherland, Bristol University, on algebra in the college maths curriculum.
