* The Professional Council for Religious Education, part of the Christian Education Movement, is running a residential conference for headteachers on RE, values and my school on June 12-13 at Kegworth Hotel, Derbyshire. Speakers include John Keast, Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, and Barbara Wintersgill, HMI with responsibility for RE. It is open to all heads, but principally to those on the “headlamp scheme”. Fee: pound;250, pound;195 members. * Warwick University has introduced a two-year, part-time MA in Religious Education by Distance Learning, which explores a new approach to the subject. Drawing on ideas from the social sciences, primary materials, called “Bridges to Religions”, and secondary books, entitled “Interpreting Religions”, have been published for young people from different religious backgrounds in Britain. The course studies these in detail with the fieldwork methods used in putting them together. Students will also study a locally-based religious group and write a dissertation. * Improving teaching and learning in RE; effective subject leadership in RE; experiential RE; and improving teaching and learning in RE at key stage 3 are among the secondary insets being run at venues around England between June and March 1999 by The Christian Education Movement. Primary topics include: using reli-gious artefacts in the primary school; using story in primary RE. Fees start at pound;38, pound;35 subscribers per half day. Details: April McIntyre, see above.

* A study tour to IsraelPalestine has been organised for February 13-21 1999 by the PCfRE, aimed at those working in religious education.
