Jacqueline Anne Birch appeared before the GTC committee in Birmingham on Monday after failing to meet targets set during her time at North Chadderton school, in Oldham.
Oldham council said the key stage 4 science teacher failed all three terms after showing inadequate knowledge or understanding of her subject, and failing to implement her lesson planning.
It also said there were concerns about the way she dealt with behaviour problems during her induction year in 2003-4.
Ms Birch told the GTC that she did not feel she had received enough support from the school and that her mentor missed six meetings during the first term.
Michelle Greaves, her National Union of Teachers' representative, said Ms Birch felt that she had made progress and could succeed if given an extension.
But David Storrie, chair of the GTC committee, dismissed the appeal and said: "Ms Birch did not have high expectations of her pupils, even the bright ones. She was not always aware of what was happening in her classroom."
