A survey of nearly 2,500 newly qualified teachers shows that nearly a quarter got fewer than two hours of non-contact time per week. Minimum requirements say full-time NQTs should teach for only 90 per cent of their timetable and spend the remaining time on preparation

The study, carried out by Nottingham and Leeds universities and the Ipsos Mori Social Research Institute, also found that the vast majority of NQTs enjoyed teaching. Only 2 per cent said they strongly disagreed that they had enjoyed working as teachers.
