Number in care still rising

THE number of children taken into local-authority care continues to rise, latest Department of Health figures show. But the proportion being adopted out of care is rising faster, although it still accounts for less than 6 per cent of the total. Nearly 60,000 children were being looked after by English councils in March this year, up 1.3 per cent on the previous year.
