Strikes are threatened in schools that carry out more than three lesson observations a year and do not negotiate them in advance with teachers. The NUT warned the “full force of the union” would also be used to defend members against observations not linked to school policy nor to help the teacher.

Delegates said “excessive” monitoring was linked to the Ofsted self evaluation forms heads had to fill in.
