Call me a prude, but I was quite dismayed to read the quotation accompanying the Anne Thrope (Ms) article (“Creating a flap before exams”, 10 June).

I buy The TES each week to keep myself informed of the ongoing changes in education and it is interesting to read about other people’s experiences.

There are often humorous anecdotes, but I do not feel that this type of crude comment is necessary in an educational magazine. We are constantly reading of a decline in standards and of how we are role models for the children we teach. As such, surely we should maintain high standards for our own language and behaviour at all times.

It seemed out of place in a magazine that usually manages to inform and entertain without the need for crudity.
