If you’re the kind of person who prefers to spend the summer months curled up in a sweaty heap on your sofa, simmering with quiet resentment at the thought of everyone else having fun, playing volley ball, and generally behaving like they’re in a Nokia advert, then you could do worse than buying The Office - An American Workplace, series 3, out this week on DVD.
Not only is it one of the funniest sitcoms on US TV right now, but it will also confirm what you already suspected: the world is full of morons and you’re better off at home.
The Office may have had high expectations to live up to when it first screened in 2005, but three series later and it’s more than living up to the reputation of its British counterpart.
Steve Carell is superb as Michael Scott, the neurotic manager of paper manufacturers Dunder-Mifflin and this series includes sublime sub-plots in the form of a merger, the annual office supplies convention, and the ongoing romance between Dwight and Angela (Tim and Dawn in the UK version).
