THE cracks are showing at the DFEE:the onslaught of government initiatives seems to have left some officials floundering. Luckily they know where to turn for help.

Don Lewis rang from Macclesfield to find out about these new leaflets for parents on how to help their kids at school. He’s heard they include a plug for relevant CD-Roms and as his firm makes CD-Roms he wants to get in on the market.

He tried the DFEE first, obviously. But five officials later he was getting nowhere. “They tell you to hold on a moment, and then you hear them shouting round the office,” he moans. The advice of the last bureaucrat? Ring The TES.

Memo to DFEE:the leaflets are produced by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. First versions out in spring.
