It seems Ofsted are falling in with the corporate business world by introducing a dress code for employees. Minimum dress standards will be “business casual” while staff meeting clients will be expected to wear “appropriate professional business attire”.
Nothing wrong with that, perhaps. But dressing up or down to suit the occasion can be confusing. How are inspectors to evaluate their appearance, or the message it conveys? Politicians have a habit of taking their ties off to demonstrate they are thrusting “modernisers” (before putting them back on to show their support for tradition). Are Ofsted employees transformational “change-makers”, upholders of timeless values, or both? Perhaps we are looking too deeply into the matter and should simply call in the inspectors to give style tips to confused inspectors. Send for Trinny and Susannah.
