Your article “Ofsted study reveals training weakness”, TES, July 14) leaves out one important fact: Ofsted itself can undermine professional development.

One outcome of “no-notice” inspections, is that schools cannot plan training around a future Ofsted visit. A visit therefore leads to the cancellation of courses that teachers may have been attending. At the very least, Ofsted should acknowledge in its reports if training was cancelled because of inspection visits.
