It is aimed at potential A-level maths students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and students in years S4-6 in Scotland intending to take Highers or CSYS in maths.

Each entry costs 40p with a minimum of Pounds 4 per school. Entry forms are sent out in September and should be returned by September 30. The top 40 per cent of candidates will receive gold, silver and bronze certificates and about 600 participants will win invitations to participate in the British Mathematical Olympiad. Details: Peter Thomas, Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge CB2 2PE. Tel: 01223 247251. Copies of past NMC papers are available for Pounds 2 per pack of five.
