MORE people are opposed to private firms running schools than managing hospitals, according to a new survey by public-sector union Unison. From a sample of 2,088, fully 86 per cent thought local education authorities, rather than firms, should manage schools. Only 5 per cent wanted companies in charge. When asked who should manage hospitals that carry out non-urgent operations, 78 per cent said the National Health Service and 14 per cent said companies.
